As usual in old games, there isn’t much explanation about the story or even the gameplay. You quickly play as a prince, and once his city is burned down, he begins to transform into different creatures after defeating each dragon leader. Of course, every living being has different abilities. The Mouse, for example, is able to attach itself to walls and access new locations, while the Lion has great striking power and other abilities with each transformation that will help you reach new places in the game world and challenge the leaders of these regions to achieve further transformations.

Visuals and Sound

On a technical level the game looks very nice. In fact, the development team provided us with wonderful hand-drawn art for this remake. What’s really amazing is that with a click of a button you can go back to the old drawings and see the big difference between the drawings. In fact, the game looks very beautiful on the Switch screen. In terms of sound, the improved melodies are also very nice. The old version is very wonderful and some of it is very beautiful with the effort of the orchestra. This is really a praise for the development team. In addition, as with the drawings, you can listen to the new melodies at the touch of a button and have the option of mixing the new drawings with old melodies or the old drawings with new melodies, and so on.

The gameplay style is very classic, side shooting, one button to jump and another button to use weapons, and there are special attacks that you can perform within the levels themselves such as fire, tornado, thunder and others. You have to jump, switch between platforms and defeat enemies to progress, and although it seems simple on paper, in implementation it is very difficult and requires a lot of effort. Patience, the reason for this is the enemies in the game, they are very random in their behavior and the effect of their blows. Sometimes your strength is not reduced by many of their blows, and other times you lose two hearts out of three in one blow, and even the enemies themselves sometimes jump a short distance and sometimes a long distance, etc., as if the game decides, when you lose your life.

Gameplay and Difficulty

This makes you very careful when facing the easiest enemy, as the game does not offer a save system in the middle of the areas. You can imagine this when you pass two complete stages and after a long journey full of torment and confrontations with the stage leader and losing to him, you have to do it all again! This is really annoying, but it’s in the original game system and it’s common for games from this period to be short in content, so this compensates by making it harder for players to finish it.

It took me 7 hours of gameplay to complete the main mission and compared to the old version, some new things have been added to the game that you should get if you want to complete everything in the game. Overall, a remake worth a try for fans of classic games, but given some of the game’s difficulties with its original design that will bother current generation players. Without a doubt, it is a game that requires a lot of patience, but it is an overall entertaining experience.
